Else
01:59

You have swum beneath my ocean
You have plumbed my deep blue sea
You have seen the wrecks and treasure chests
That chart my history.
If you could salvage all the men-o-war
That have sunk into these deeps
I wouldn't hear them whisper any more
In the rigging of my sleep.
Else I would be someone else
You have walked upon my waters
And when you felt your footsteps sink
Found me deep enough to drown in
But not deep enough to drink.
For there are angry currents in me
That have shipwrecked every boat
That ever dared these roiling reefs and rocks
With their nets of fraying hope.

Retroduction
00:43
|
|||
When angels descended in the mists to walk the earth, their terrible beauty was dangerous, irresistible to the daughters of Eve. So the shining ones took custody of their liquid eyes, cloaked their proud strength and spoke in muted whispers. For any woman's heart is forever enslaved by an angel's authentic voice.
Here and now that's me. That's me and you and your authentic voice.

Authentic Voice
04:02
|
|||
Your words flow like oil on my ears
Drowning the meaning I need to be clear
I don't need the promises you try to mean
And I don't want the sacrifice of any of your dreams
All I ask of you
All that you can do
Is speak to me
In your authentic voice
Hold me close and make it right
Stay with me through this bright night
I'm not afraid of what I feel
If I know that you are really the one
Who speaks to me
In your authentic voice
Love needs no words to be strong
Trust adds no guilt in its song
You cannot buy me, so please don't even start
You cannot earn my love, but I can give my heart
All I ask of you
All that you can do
Is speak to me
In your authentic voice
Tell me truth or tell me lies
I can't read that in your eyes
But I hear it in your smile
In your hopeless peace, your violent dismay
Just speak to me
In your authentic voice
All I ask of you
All that you can do
Is speak to me
In your authentic voice

January Road
02:46
|
|||
Waking up to the radio news is a moment of sleepy deja vu
Different scandals and different wars, but the world rolls round like it did before
Absently making myself tea, carelessly burning some fruit toast
I wonder whether you're awake yet up January Road
In the meeting I give my report; facts and figures, bullets and triggers
Every question is carefully aimed with my future sitting in the cross-hairs
Through my confident glances, through my casual answers
I wonder how you're getting along up January Road
February wouldn't do
March and April failed me too
July and August both said "no"
Remember November, December and here we go
I brush my teeth, have a long and steamy bath, put my cellphone into its charger
Turn out the light, slip into my bed and let the day die in the darkness
It's not that I'm dreaming, no, it's not that I'm scheming
But I wonder if you're sleeping alone up January Road

Drive Away
02:03
|
|||
When the passion is all gone and the feelings are all wrong
Your commitment cannot hold your empty words
When the joy's no longer there or the world begins to stare
'Cos there are no easy answers to your need
Drive away
Just drive away
When your courage is lost and you're counting the cost
'Cos the love that you felt cannot be found
Deny the vows you've obeyed and all the promises made
Just retreat until you cannot hear their sound
